This has been such a good breeding year for many bird species and the Goldfinch is no exception. Large flocks of juvenile birds are coming to our feeders, identifiable from their washed out head colours despite showing bright yellow wing and tail feathers. This one is getting on with the final stage of its body moult before the winter, losing its drab juvenile plumage and adopting the Goldfinch’s distinctive red headgear.
